Dear Chester Educational Community,

Please accept this correspondence as our request for your input with regard to our initial draft of a plan for opening school in August 2021. We are requesting your thoughts now, as we recently learned from the NH Department of Education that we are required to submit a reopening document by June 23rd.

The draft plan is posted on our website here. In addition, we have posted a form for you to submit your input here. Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

You will note upon reviewing the plan that we hope to be in a traditional in person model to begin the school year. This is the model we normally use.

No extraordinary adaptations are made to account for COVID-19.  Minor changes such as hand sanitizer dispensers will remain in place and use by all will be encouraged (especially surrounding snack times and lunch periods). Students and groups are allowed to mix and be in close proximity.

Masks are not required to be worn. However, they will not be prohibited should staff/parents/students choose to wear them.

Students are expected to be present and those who are not present will be marked absent in accordance with the Student Handbook. No remote instruction will be generally available. You will also note that we have made provisions for an Adapted In Person and a Remote model should either of those become necessary.

We believe that there will be ample time to revisit this initial plan over the summer and to make revisions as necessary. The School Board anticipates meeting once in July and twice in August.

Thank you for your insights. We appreciate hearing from you. Regards,

Darrell J. Lockwood, Ed.D.
Superintendent
