Dear Parents/Guardians:

I mentioned in my letter on Wednesday that I would be getting back to you with more information by the end of the week. While I don’t have a crystal ball, it was quite easy to anticipate that we would be hearing more from the Governor with regard to New Hampshire’s response to COVID-19.

By now, most of you are aware that Governor Sununu issued Emergency Order #17 yesterday. This stay- at-home order will take effect this evening at 11:59 PM. The immediate effect of this order on our school district is that we will extend remote learning through May 1st.

We have received a large number of responses to the remote learning survey that was shared with you in Principal Lacroix’s email on Wednesday. We will be analyzing that data and using it to guide our work in the coming weeks. The survey is still open if you have not had time to provide us with input. I did have an opportunity to review the early responses and want to thank you for the many affirmations and acknowledgements of the great work that the Chester School District staff is accomplishing. In addition, you have provided us with some information on how we can improve. Thank you!

We have a scheduled Chester School Board meeting on Wednesday, April 1st. Please note that the meeting time has been changed to 4 PM. It will be convened as an “emergency meeting.” The Board strongly encourages members of the public to participate in the Board meeting remotely, rather than planning to attend in person. Due to the COVID19 situation, emergency measures are expected to be in place, including remote participation by Board members, as well as restrictions on the number of persons physically in attendance at the meeting location. Members of the public will be able to listen to the meeting remotely on CETV, channel 22. For those who do not have Comcast the CETV live stream can be found at https://www.chesternh.org/chester-pact. Members of the public may send public comment via email to publiccomment4.1@sau82.org. Please provide your full name and address in your email comments.

Moving forward we will likely be sending you weekly updates. However, if you have questions or concerns please send me an email. We will do our best to provide you with a prompt response.

Enjoy the weekend with your families! Let your children know that we miss them. Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Darrell J. Lockwood, Ed.D.
